Promoting Student-Athlete Wellness and Substance Abuse Prevention

SAMs Say Campaign

SAMs Say logo

The campaign was conducted through the course EDHS 3500: “Practicum in Peer Alcohol Education” in the University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development.  Students gain practical application of health promotion theory, knowledge and skills to work in a University setting through active participation in creating a substance misuse prevention, health, and wellness campaign.  Students assess areas of concern within the UVA student-athlete community and utilize that information to create a series of prevention posters.  The final product is presented during monthly SAM meetings and displayed for all student-athletes in locker-rooms and academic affairs offices.
