Dr. Bennett (Ben) Cherry (PhD, The University of Arizona) is Professor of Entrepreneurship and Management at California State University San Marcos. He enjoys teaching college students both in California and abroad, and has held visiting professorships at universities in Germany, Austria, and Denmark. With an interest in the enduring value of athletics to student development and with his own experiences coaching, officiating, and playing competitive sports, Ben has parlayed these into a longstanding service role as CSUSM’s NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) since 2004. In this role, he works with the Cougar Athletics program to ensure student-athlete wellbeing, academic integrity, and institutional control of athletics. He is currently serving on the NCAA Division II Management Council and as a liaison to the Division II National SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee). In 2019, Ben received the Dr. Dave Pariser Faculty Mentor Award by the NCAA’s National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recognizing his dedication to supporting and mentoring student-athletes.
